Zero Imbalance  ·  up to 10 MW  ·  Portugal and Spain

Stop worrying
about imbalance.

wattimize manages your plant’s imbalance. And guarantees it. The producer is paid for what the resource gave — not for what the market let into the grid.

Schedule (15 min) Actual output Imbalance
The starting point

Imbalance has no
price of its own.

It settles at the cost of the balancing energy the system had to activate in that quarter-hour. When the system is expensive, the imbalance is expensive. No tariff, no cap, and it does not depend on you.

The offer

We pay for what the sun gave.
Not for what the grid let in.

The reference is a sensor installed at your plant. When the price turns negative we stop the plant — and the producer is still paid.

What changes on your account

Six things,
and no small print.

How it works

Three steps.
Then it is mechanical.

Measurement

A weather station on site

A pyranometer on solar, an anemometer on wind, with telemetry. The measurement reaches you without passing through us — the data channel is yours too.

Conversion

A function fitted to your plant

The relationship between what the sensor measures and what the plant produces comes from your own historical series. Independent of technology and equipment brand.

Recalibration

Monthly, and verifiable by you

Recalibrated every month, using only setpoint-free hours. The coefficient in force appears in the report. You can redo the calculation yourself.

The product requires the ability to steer the plant remotely: that is what lets us stop when the price is negative and still pay you.

Who it is for

Up to 10 MW.
Above that, the group carries on.

wattimize

Up to 10 MW

Solar and wind plants in Portugal and Spain. Zero Imbalance: imbalance managed and guaranteed, payment on deemed energy. No system services.

10 MW
Gesto Comercialização

Above 10 MW

Including portfolios adding up to more than 10 MW even when made of 1 MW units. Access to system services comes in — capacity and energy in mFRR and aFRR — with Gesto Comercialização as the licensed market agent, optimised in partnership with us.

The boundary is not bureaucratic. Below it the value is in not losing money to imbalance. Above it the value is in earning money in system services — and that requires BSP status, unit-level qualification and a connection to the system operator.

Why we can

Forecasting and decision.
That is all, and that is everything.

Forecasting

Weather models, integrated

A multi-model ensemble, conditioned on sky regime in solar and on model disagreement in wind. What we deliver is the distribution per quarter-hour, not a point.

Decision

Strategy under asymmetric cost

Erring high and erring low do not cost the same. The schedule is decided on the distribution and on the cost of each side of the error — never on the central value.

The model
Perimeter

One plant’s imbalance offsets another’s

It is inside a balance perimeter that imbalances cancel each other out. That is what sustains the price — and why this is contracted with us, not separately.

About us

Optimizing beyond
batteries.

Most optimizers work with batteries, where the resource is known. wattimize optimizes wind and solar — co-located with batteries, or without them.

Solar

The sky decides

Relative imbalance per quarter-hour is roughly 2.4 times larger under unstable skies than under clear ones. The model is conditioned on sky regime before deciding.

Solar
Wind

The error persists

Larger in amplitude and far more persistent. A phase error on a ramp holds for hours, in the same direction, and accumulates.

Wind
Hybrid

A joint decision

A co-located battery shares its connection point with an uncertain source. It is optimised as one unit, not as two assets.

Hybrid

wattimize is the optimization company of Grupo Gesto Energia, which has been developing renewable projects since 2008 and planning power systems in more than 40 countries.

What did imbalance
cost you last year?

Tell us the capacity, the technology and the contractual arrangement. We analyse the history separating the weather effect from the dispatch effect, and put a number on it — before there is a proposal.
